Ottawa – Zagreb Cooperation Protocol Signed

On 22nd January 2009, Head of Zagreb Emergency Management Office Pavle Kalinić and John Ash, Head of the City of Ottawa Office of Emergency Management, signed a Declaration and protocol on cooperation and friendship between the two offices.

According to the Protocol, the common interest of both offices is the further development of crisis management in Ottawa and Zagreb. The signing of the declaration and protocol established a common platform and opened channels of international cooperation in the area of crisis management.

The signatories agreed that the main areas of cooperation should be: exchange of information and knowledge in terms of crisis management, civil protection, emergency management and education of the public.
The City of Ottawa Emergency Management Office was established in 1990 with the followings aims:
• Planning, prevention and preparation for crisis;
• Ensuring the operation of basic city infrastructure during crisi;
• Helping the city to recover from crisis.

Also present at the signing was Vesela Mrđen Korać, the Croatian ambassador to Canada.
